MERCY AND DEEDS
Why is Mercy Ministry important?
• |
Mercy is part of the nature of God
(Ps. 140:12; Hosea 6:6; Luke 6:36) |
• |
Mercy was an important aspect of the earthly ministry of Christ
(Mt. 15:32; Mt 23:23) |
• |
Mercy is a mark of the believer
(Micah 6:8; I John 3:16) |
• |
Mercy is a calling of the church
(Ps. 82:3; Mt. 25:31-46; Gal. 6:1 |
East Cobb Presbyterian is committed to both Word and deed ministry. Because God Himself is full of mercy and shows each of us mercy in countless ways, we believe every Christian is called to show love and mercy to others. We also believe the most effective and biblical form of mercy ministry is spontaneous, everyday mercy shown by Jesus’ followers (Luke 10:25-37). The best forms of mercy ministry are those that “bubble up” as people respond to God’s call in their lives – not those that are organized from the leadership of the church. However, the church should evaluate needs in the congregation and community that are not being addressed and seek the Lord to determine if there is a way we should be involved. The table below highlights some of the ministries in which ECPC members participate.

Summerhill |
Many opportunities for inner-city service are available in the Summerhill Community, located near downtown and Turner Field. ECPC’s involvement each summer includes preparing and serving hot meals and assisting with arts and crafts, music and drama classes. The after-school program desperately needs volunteers to tutor young people.
